The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) represents the interests of university professors to lawmakers, college administrators and the public. The Annie Powe Hopper Award, named in honor of Valdosta State's first Dean of Women, is presented annually to a senior who represents the high academic standards and exemplifies the traditions of Valdosta State University.

The VSC/VSU Football program began in 1982, and its first coach was Jim Goodman. Other coaches include Mike Cavan, Hal Mumme, and Mike Kelly. The first athlete from the VSC football team to play professional football was Jesse Tuggle. The team is division two of the Gulf South Conference. President Hugh Bailey brought Football to VSC early in his tenure, and has been very active in supporting it.

The Histories of SGSNC and GSWC includes general memorabilia about/from the colleges. The topics and subject matters are varied. This collection provides a wide range of artifacts, including, but not limited to: correspondence, mimeographs, newspaper articles, pamphlets, programs, a deed, brochures, and personal keepsakes. Hugh Coleman Bailey Papers

Dr. Hugh Coleman Bailey was the sixth president of Valdosta State College. Appointed by the board of Regents in 1978, Dr. Bailey served fro 23 years (1978-2002). He was born July 2, 1929, in berry, Alabama. Dr. Bailey graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, with a B.A. in history in 1950. He went on to get his M.A. in 1951 and his Ph.D. in 1954 from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He married Joan Seever in 1962 and they have two daughters.

Valdosta State's first basketball team was called the Rebels, a name that was used campus-wide for sports until 1972 when our name was changed to the Blazers. This collection contains sports memorabilia from our time both as the Rebels and the Blazers including themed: posters, clothing, banners, and pictures. Also part of the collection is former mascot Blaze the Dragon, who lives on the first floor of Odum Library next to the Bailey display.
